. KUWINDA .
. COMMUNITY LIBRARY .
Discovery Mode
The Kuwinda literacy project is
owned by the Kuwinda Slum Community located about 15 Kilometers from the Nairobi City Centre. Up to 800 slum dwellers, school age children and youth gain access to the library. The slum lacks basic amenities such as water and
electricity and therefore Internet is a luxury to the community.
The project has received fresh wind when the librarian Sam Mbogo invested time and effort to offer extracurricular evening classes using digital devices danted by wiLearn Switzerland. Sam is convinced that leveraging on technology will help poor children from poor backgrounds to
compete effectively with the rest of the world. The mobile learning with iPads donated by M. Kellenberger from the TBZ Zürich have markedly improved the KCPE national exam 2022 scores of the learners. Thus the "word of mouth" made the library a fashionable place for the youth to hang out together and learn something interesting.
Communities on the waiting list
We have now 4 communites like Kuwinda who would like to engage in mobile learning with Sam Mbogo. He plans to organise a team of teachers and facilitators to schedule learning session in the various communities. As soon we can find enough support, we can start equipping the mobile learning team at the outskirts of Nairobi.
